Aliso Niguel High School hosts many outstanding student athletes, but senior Josie Zamora stands out from the crowd. Zamora is the quarterback and captain of the girl varsity flag football team and plays outfield on the varsity softball team.
Josie has been playing flag football since fifth grade, but had to stop when she reached freshman year. This was because flag football was not considered a sport during her freshman, sophomore and junior years of high school. Once it became an established CIF sport at Aliso, Zamora was ready to join.
Along with flag football, she has been playing softball since she was eight years old. When she was a freshman at Aliso Niguel, the first thing she decided to do was try out and make the softball team.
Throughout her four years of high school as an Aliso Niguel athlete, she has learned many valuable lessons.
When asked what it was like to be a captain her senior year, she said, “It was an incredible experience; it was a little difficult at times, but overall, it was fun. It taught me a lot about being a leader and helping others.”
Using her training from her many years in athletics, Josie is prepared to take the next step and move on to bigger and better things. She has not yet committed to a college for softball, but she has applied and is expecting to commit to the following colleges: Utah Tech University, Boise State University, University of Northern Colorado and Colorado State University. Although she will miss her flag football and softball teams here at Aliso, she is ready to challenge herself and play at a higher level.
Josie could not have asked for a better last flag football season. The Aliso girls flag football team won the league and made it to CIF. She was the start of the incredible legacy that will be the girls flag football team. Her last season of softball has not begun yet, but the team is preparing to start playing fall league.
Josie Zamora describes her experience in Aliso athletics in one word: “I would describe it as competitive. The reason I would use this word is because throughout my years playing softball and flag football, I was always pushed to my highest standard, and to be the best athlete out there due to how competitive everyone at the school is.”
Josie Zamora has established outstanding skills, and has created a legacy at Aliso Niguel. As she moves forward, she will continue to grow and become an even better athlete.
