The Aliso Niguel Dance Appreciation team prepares for “Cabaret Night” taking place on Nov. 17, 2023 at the Aliso Niguel High School Theater to showcase their incredible talents. DA is a competitive sport at Aliso Niguel that has its own unique hip-hop style that will be displayed at the event.
For the exciting night, there will be three performances from each division: a large co-ed group with the whole program, a medium group with both intermediate and advanced dancers and finally, a small group that has advanced dancers only.
After the three divisions, there will be individual performances that each person will do.
“We have people singing, playing guitar and doing duets to different styles of dance,” says Avah Parsi, a talented sophomore in DA.
Every person in DA is working their hardest to perform at their best in front of their supporting parents and students. They have been finishing up choreography and perfecting their group dances to make it a memorable night.
Noelia Rodriguez-Martinez (10) says, “I’m looking forward to the dress rehearsal and showing students and parents what we do in DA.”
Noelia is excited to showcase her growth and to dance with her closest friends. Dress rehearsal is when they decide their costumes and clothes they perform in that goes along with the dance.
Cabaret Night is a great bonding experience and is an opportunity to get to know people further, but with dancing in front of a full audience, it could be intimidating.
For Nick Perez (10), he says, “It’s scary before you do it, but during the performance, all of my nerves go away.”
Nick loves how DA has helped him make many unexpected friendships. With being one of the few guys that are on DA, he enjoys the overwhelming amount of support and the loving memories that he has created.
The event is estimated to be around two hours long and the tickets are $10 a person for people buying before Nov. 15, and $15 for people attending last minute. The coaches have put in a great amount of effort working with different choreography, trying to accentuate each person’s talent.
For the seniors, Krissy Pascua, Andrew Nyguen, Chloe Willoughby, Ridhima Adhikari and Kelsey Watts, this will be their final Cabaret Night at Aliso Niguel.
Kelsey (12) has been in DA for the past four years and is proud of how much she has grown.
She says, “I am going to miss the showcase the most because it is a perfect representation of all of our growth and it is an emotional performance.”
Kelsey loves how Aliso has held this tradition of Cabaret Night because she enjoys looking back on past performances and seeing how much they have improved.
Everyone is looking forward to the upcoming performances of Cabaret Night. They are hoping this wonderful night will help jump start the new season and to give them confidence to succeed to win competitions in the future.
