The boys water polo team at Aliso recently won league on Oct. 19 playing one of their last league games against Trabuco Hills High School.
“Winning league for the second time in our school’s history for water polo felt very rewarding after the long practices,” said Ryan Honarker (12).
Overall, the boys won 18-8 of their games and won all their six league games giving them the title of Seaview League Champions.
On Oct. 5, they went up against Trabuco Hills. They were able to secure the win with a final score of 17-7. Aliso went up against Mission Viejo High School on Oct. 10, winning with a final score of 19-7, doubling their opponents score.
Aliso played against Tesoro High School on Oct. 12. The boys were able to secure the win against their opponent with a winning final score of 17-12. That night the boys were able to celebrate their victory and their seniors.
Senior night took place on the same day as Aliso’s game against Tesoro. This year there are ten graduating seniors: Carson Kennedy, Jason Hansen, Ayden Smith, Bora Vanli, Lucca Esparza, Ryder Shumate, Jackson Geiger, Kurtis Pikula, Ryan Honarker and Kylund Herman. Many of these players have participated in water polo for all four years of high school.
The boys played their second-to-last game against Trabuco Hills. This match took place on Oct. 19 and determined their title of League Champions. The boys secured the win and title as they won the game with a final score of 14-8.
All three water polo levels here at Aliso won the title of Seaview League Champions.
The boys’ last league game took place at Mission Viejo High School on Oct. 24. Determined to finish league with a win, the boys played hard both mentally and physically. Doubling their opponents score, the boys won against Mission Viejo with a final score of 13-6.
With an end to league games, all that there is left is CIF. The boys were able to play in CIF and made it to the first round.
For many of the players, this meant it could be their last ever game playing water polo.
The first round took place on Nov. 1 against Woodrow Wilson High School. The boys played hard and took a loss of 8-15.
Taking part in CIF meant that each game determined the team’s ability to advance forward. Sadly, the boys varsity water polo team at Aliso finished in the first round.
“I was hoping we would win the first round and get a chance at the semi finals, but we got an unlucky matchup and our season ended short,” said captain Jackson Gieger (12).
This season the boys had an eight game winning streak. This streak started from games won against Murrieta Valley High School, University High School, Capistrano Valley High School, Yorba Linda High School, San Clemente High School, Villa Park High School, and Francis Parker High School.
