The boys water polo team at Aliso Niguel has had many victories in league during the 2023 season so far. As the season starts to finish up, the boys have their minds set on league champions and playing in CIF.
The boys have a winning streak of four in the Sea View league and have a high chance of winning the league. In league, the boys water polo team has gone against Trabuco Hills High School, Mission Viejo High School and Tesoro High School twice.
Aliso played their first league game away at Tesoro on Oct. 3. Nearly tripling the opponents score, the Wolverines took home the win that night with a score of 19-5.
The boys played their second league game against Trabuco Hills on Oct. 5. A little over doubling the score, the boys were able to win with a score of 17-7.
With winning in their minds, Aliso played Mission Viejo on Oct. 10. With the highest goals in the season so far, the wolverines won 19-7. The boys went up against Tesoro once again on Oct. 12. Going in with a win already against them, Aliso played harder than before scoring 17-12.
The boys have trained long and hard this season knowing they can end up as champions if they put in the work and dedication.
“We train twice a day, swim and legs conditioning in the morning and after school we do weights and polo,” said Captain Jackson Geiger (12).
Out of all their games played so far, the boys have a 68 percent winning score having won 15-7 of their games.
The games played were either non-league or part of the two tournaments that Aliso took part in.
At the Chris Weisz Tournament, Aliso went up against Milikan High School, El Dorado High School, Francis Parker High School and Villa Park High School.
Out of the four games played at this tournament, Aliso won three. The boys started off this tournament with a win on Sept. 8, winning 12-3, quadrupling their opponents score. On the same day, Aliso played El Dorado and lost 7-10.
With two games left to play, Aliso locked in on Sept. 9 winning both their games. The boys played Francis Parker scoring 18-10 and Villa Park scoring 11-7.
At the Villa Park Tournament, Aliso went up against Servite High School, Carlsbad High School, Murrieta Valley High School, University High School and Santa Margarita High School.
Out of the five games Aliso played at the Villa Park Tournament, the boys ended 3-2. Aliso started off with a win against University on Sept. 21 scoring 14-8. That same day, the boys won again against Murrieta Valley with a score of 13-9.
The following day on Sept. 22, the Wolverines went up against Santa Margarita scoring 5-14. On Sept. 23, Aliso played Carlsbad with a close score of 12-17.
Not letting these two losses get into their heads, Aliso finished off the tournament on Sept. 23 against Servite winning 16-15.
Aliso has played nine non-league games. They went up against Beckman, Crean Lutheran, Portola, San Juan Hills, Dana Hills, San Clemente, Yorba Linda, Capistrano Valley and Brea Olinda High School.
“Our game against our divisional rivals San Clemente was our best game” said Ryan Honarker (12).
On Sept. 12, Aliso played against San Clemente ending in a win of 14-9.
The boys waterpolo team looks forward to becoming League Champions and playing in CIF.
