The boys cross country team at Aliso has been putting in the work to consistently place in the 2023 season.
The Captains this season are Josiah Miranda (12), Faris Radieddine (11), Anderson Blattner (11), Quinn Curtis (11) and Karson Brunke (10).
No matter the weather, the boys are always getting the miles in. They start off their practices with a mile or two warm-up. Following this they begin dynamic stretching which is usually led by captains Blattner and Curtis.
From there they hear from Coach Walsh on the day’s run and mileage. At the end of each practice, they always stretch or run a cool down mile to make sure there will be no soreness the following days.
This season the boys will be competing in 11 meets, including the Saddleback Cup, Laguna Hills Invitational, Woodbridge Cross Country Classic, Central Park Invitational, CVAA Preview Meet, Clovis 5K, OC XC Championships, Mt. Sac, South Coast League Prelims, CIF Prelims and CIF Finals.
The first meet that took place was the Saddleback Cup Challenge on Sept. 1. This race is unlike the others as it runs only two miles instead of the typical three.
The seven runners who scored points for Aliso were Josiah Miranda, Faris Radieddine, Parker McAdam (10), Karson Brunke, Lucas Morris (11), Eddie Hocking (10), and Quinn Curtis.
The top runner for Aliso at this race was Josiah Miranda who finished in tenth place with a 9:43.90.
Laguna Hills Invitational took place on Sept. 9. This race is known to have many steep inclines.
Junior Faris Radieddine, not only got the lowest time of the team on this course, also placed first out of 89 runners with a time of 16:16.2.
Two Aliso sophomores placed in the top ten at this race. Parker McAdam ran a 16:34.7 and Karson Brunke ran a 16:56.0.
The Woodbridge Cross Country Classic took place on Sept. 16.
“This is the easiest course because the course is flat. There is a lot of competition and people watching,” said Radieddine.
Radieddine and Miranda both scored in the top 100 in the varsity race. Radieddine finished with a time of 15:09.0 and Miranda with a 15:11.0.
The Central Park Invitational took place on Sept. 30. The team placed sixth out of 45 teams. Miranda finished first from Aliso with a time of 15:23.3. Radieddine right behind him finished with a 15:29.1. Brunke finished with a 15:51.4 and McAdam with a 16:19.4.
The CVAA Preview Meet took place on Oct. 4 at Capistrano Valley High School. This race is only run by the freshman, sophomore and junior varsity teams.
This year the boys competed in the Clovis 5k on Oct. 7. The varsity team took a two-day trip to compete in this race. Overall the boys placed third amongst the other teams.
“We did better than a lot of good teams and we probably surprised others with our performance,” said Miranda.
Miranda finished first for Aliso placing sixteenth with a time of 16:16.
Upcoming meets for the boys cross country team are the Orange County Cross Country Championships, Mt. Sac, South Coast League Finals, CIF Prelims and CIF Finals.
