The Aliso Niguel boys basketball team is currently holding their annual fundraiser, selling a variety of chocolate bars to help fund their sport. The team is raising money to be able to afford new jerseys, tournament costs and practice gear that would last them for the next couple of years.
The goal for each player is to sell around 240 chocolate bars which is a total of $240 per person. The overall goal for their fundraiser is to earn $2500 or more to spend on equipment and to support the staff for their efforts.
All players on the Aliso Niguel basketball team are required to sell four boxes of chocolates. They are given bars from The World’s Finest Chocolate company, which is one of the most efficient and cost effective ways to raise money for school.
Jaydon Yang (10) comments on his time selling chocolate bars, saying, “The chocolates are easy to sell but it’s hard to sell all of them. The chocolates were easy to sell, but I couldn’t sell all of them since there were more than customers demand.”
On occasion there are times when it is hard to find customers, however, in the first weeks many are craving the chocolates. Many basketball players complain about the drought of sales because after a couple days, the demand for chocolate bars drops. The most sought after flavors are definitely the almond or caramel bars as most students state that they are the tastiest.
When asked about his experiences selling chocolate bars for the team, Garret Mcelroy (11) states, “Success is not final… failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts. GAME IS GAME.”
You can usually find these students selling their chocolate bars during lunch and passing periods. They go for $1 each and they will never run out of inventory as they are trying to raise as much money as possible.
There are 60 bars in each box and each bar is about 1.3 ounces. In every box there are 12 Almond, 6 Dark, 12 Rice Crisps, 6 Milk, 18 Caramel and 6 Wafers. Most students state that the Almond, Milk and Caramel sell out first, some even completely selling out within the first couple of days.
Ajitesh Bhatti (10) comments, “I love getting to go out and sell these chocolate bars to help support the sport and program that I love playing for.”
The largest sale so far this year has been by Ethan Do’s mom as she has sold over 12 boxes of chocolate at her work. Her efforts have brought in over $720 going towards the team’s fund.
For only $1 to purchase a bar, the resulting funds earned are going towards a great cause to support our amazing basketball coaches, staff and team.
