This year’s Homecoming Court was revealed at the homecoming football game during the halftime show that took place at around 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 6.
The Class of 2024’s senior Homecoming included a Homecoming Court of three boys and five girls. These individuals were Ayden Smith, Chris Vazquez and Marcus Macabitas for the boys. The girls up for the running for Homecoming royalty were Izzy Rodriguez, Brooke Cooperrider, Maci Whitesides, Amira Salazar and Brianna Jones.
Revealed during the Homecoming halftime show at the football game, the winners of the Homecoming royalty were Ayden Smith and Izzy Rodriguez.
Seniors can enter themselves in the running for Homecoming Court by simply signing up if they want to become a part of it. Instead of the previous system for Homecoming Court and for other dances where royalty were chosen out of the entire grade with people nominating whoever they wanted, the members this year entered voluntarily and were narrowed down through a fairly lengthy voting process.
The winners of Homecoming royalty are chosen by the rest of the senior class, with two rounds of voting taking place. While the Homecoming royalty for all other grades are voted on and decided before the Homecoming Pep Rally and revealed at said Pep Rally, only the first round of voting is completed by this date. However, the finalists are brought out to encourage students to vote in the second round out of this group to choose the final two winners. After the second round of voting opens, the two with the highest votes become the official Homecoming royalty.
Many students prefer the two-round voting process to the previous nominations because of how it is more official and focuses the voting on a small group of students as opposed to the around 600 students in the grade. It is also more extensive because of the use of several rounds, which lengthens the process and creates more excitement for the actual event.
Claire Risse (12), for example, expresses support for the process in choosing the Homecoming royalty, “I definitely prefer the voting with two rounds and people who sign up for running themselves, because it is a lot harder to choose out of the entire senior class and who actually wants to win royalty or not.”
At the Homecoming halftime show, all of the finalists for Homecoming Court walked down the red carpet escorted by someone of their choosing, with many deciding to opt for a parent or significant mentor.
