At 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 4, Aliso Niguel’s Concert Band and Wind Ensemble had their first concert of the fall season. The concert was held in the theater at Aliso Niguel High School.
At the concert, the outstanding students from the wind ensemble performed four songs on their own and three songs with the concert band over the course of an hour.
If a student who attends Aliso Niguel or a staff member went to the concert, the entry was free, but otherwise, the tickets were $5 a person. They are charging for entry this year in hopes to raise money for their program.
There was a successful turnout at the fall concert. About 60 parents, siblings, staff members and students came to watch the concert band and wind ensemble perform at their first fall concert.
The concert began with a wonderful performance from the wind ensemble. Instead of sitting in a standard arc formation, the students changed formations throughout the entire concert. This brought some laughs from the audience, and kept them engaged in between the songs.
Aidan Scherffius (12), drum major and horn player says, “That was the first concert of my last year at Aliso. I was pleased with how the band and myself played. It was a good start and I’m looking forward to what we can achieve later in the year.”
The concert band and wind ensemble came together during the second half of the concert to perform the last few songs for the audience. The crowd was blown away by the students’ outstanding talent during the concert.
Mr. Ma, Band Director and Concert Band and Wind Ensemble Instructor says, “The concert was a success, and I am very proud of the students’ improvements throughout the beginning of the year. I can’t wait to see how far they will go this year.”
Along with a beautiful performance from the concert band and wind ensemble, there was also a concession stand for attendees at the event. The stand was run by a few parent and student volunteers from the Aliso Niguel Marching Band and Color Guard program.
Now that they’ve had their first concert, the concert band and wind ensemble is preparing for their many other concerts this year. One of the major concerts will happen later this year during spring.
The concert turned out to be a huge success and a fantastic start to the fall concert season. The concert band and wind ensemble students are excited to continue performing at the many concerts throughout the rest of the year.
