As a celebration for Aliso Niguel’s mixtape-themed homecoming week, students and staff on campus participated in a week of dress-up days from Oct. 2 to Oct. 6 to kick off the year in the right direction.
The mixtape theme comes after last year’s homecoming theme of movie genres, which many students believed was difficult to dress up for.
Taryn Raibon (12) states, “I thought the theme was easier to participate in this year. Movie genres are harder to dress up for and figure out how to encompass a genre, so mixtape is more practical to dress up for.”
On Monday, Oct. 2, students and staff could wear a band tee of their choice as a tribute to their favorite artists.
Mariam Taheri (12) says, “I chose to participate in the spirit wear this year because I really like the theme of music. Music is something that everybody can relate to and it connects people together, no matter our differences. I wore a Nirvana band t-shirt because I really like their music and I wanted to show some school spirit in my last year of high school.”
On Tuesday, participants were instructed to dress as their favorite music genre. ASB oversaw all of the school activities and events and chose the mixtape theme as it allows students to have more creativity over their outfits and spirit wear, and express themselves more authentically.
On Wednesday, Oct. 4, the theme was “Blues Day;” students dressed in all blue to show some school spirit.
Asal Flodius (12) wore blue on Wednesday and comments, “I participated in Wednesday’s spirit wear because blue is my favorite color and I have a lot of it in my closet. Blue or teal is also one of our school’s colors so I thought it would be fun.”
On Thursday, Oct. 5, Aliso Niguel celebrated homecoming weekend by dressing as their favorite artist or album cover. Many students chose popular artists, both current and nostalgic, and their creativity stood out.
On Friday, Oct. 6, the day of the homecoming football game, Aliso Niguel wore their best outfits for “A Day at the Opera.”
Many students outdid themselves on Friday in spirit of the football game. Seniors especially took advantage of this special day to celebrate with friends and cheer on the school’s football team.
Taryn Raibon (12) says, “I’m really trying to participate in all of the activities that Aliso Niguel has to offer this year, since it’s my last year in high school and I really enjoyed having fun with the dress up days this week.”
The homecoming week dress-up days are a way to unite students and staff together and reintroduce students to the new year with interactive activities and events. The mixtape theme for this year’s homecoming was a way for students to musically express themselves and dress up in attire that is unique to themselves and their personalities.
