This year, on Sept. 18, Aliso Niguel High School’s senior class celebrated their annual tradition of Senior Sunrise at 5:30 a.m. in the stadium.
Senior Sunrise is a big tradition celebrated by the graduating class every year. Tickets were around $15, and went up in price during the last two weeks they were being sold. Seniors ate a breakfast of crepes and enjoyed coffee while spending time with their friends. This event marks the start of a new beginning for the students, and it is one worth celebrating.
“It’s nice,” says senior Daisy Sandoval (12), “I can just watch the sunrise with my friends while we eat breakfast, but it makes me a little emotional to think about since this is my last year.”
A lot of planning went into Senior Sunrise, making sure the event felt as special as it is. Melody Vakili (12), the overall planner of this event says, “I had to make a budget, see how much money we had in the account, how much ticket sales would be in order to pay for the vendor as well as make a profit, contacting a vendor for both food and coffee…and get publicity out on social media platforms.”
The football team was another obstacle, since they have the field to themselves on Monday mornings. Coordinating a plan with the football coach, some seniors were advised to get off the field when the team showed up at 6:45. Usually, the seniors leave at around 7, but the football coaches did not want to extend their wait.
When asked how Melody felt, being the one planning Senior Sunrise, she said, “As of right now I’m not emotional planning senior events…it’s more of a surreal feeling since our class never got to experience all four years of high school normally due to Covid-19. It’s a very rewarding feeling being able to plan the events for our class of 2024.”
Thankfully, all of Aliso Niguel’s hard work paid off, because many seniors got to enjoy their time, and post about it on social media. With the first senior event over, it will not be long until the next bittersweet tradition these seniors have to face. That being said, Senior Sunrise did its job bringing the class of 24’ together to celebrate the beginning of a new journey.
