Both the boys and girls Cross Country season kicked off in September, starting with the Saddleback Cup challenge for the boys, and the Laguna Hills Invitational for both of the teams.
The boy’s team participated in the Saddleback Cup for their first meet of the season at Trabuco Hills High School, running a two mile course. Aliso placed fourth out of the ten teams, with Josiah Miranda (12), leading the Wolverines with a 9:43, averaging a 4:52 mile.
The following week, the boys competed in the 39th annual Laguna Hills Invitational, a three-mile course. Farris Radieddine (11) took home the individual race over Ziyad Abdallah of Trabuco Hills by 13 seconds. Overall, Aliso placed fifth in a 12-team race.
Quinn Curtis (11), when asked about how he feels the boys team is doing so far, said, “our team is looking really good, we’re trying to have every runner get sub 16:30 and our goal is to make it to state.”
On the girls team, they have only competed in one meet so far, which was the Laguna Hills Cross Country Invitational. Olivia Foody (12) placed fourth for the Wolverines, whilst the rest of the girls put up a good fight against tough competition.
As the seniors say goodbye and run competitively in high school for the last time, lots of positive things were said. They were described as “positive role models and great mentors for the younger girls.”
Abarca complimented Aliso’s team captain, Sarina Fusillo (12).
“She is always helping the freshman with their running form and encouraging them to push it every day, sets a huge example for all the younger girls because she works really hard every day.” Abarca added, “Last year when she was a junior she kinda took me under her wing and made me feel so good about myself and always pushed me to do my best.”
