The Earth Based Club is an environmental advocacy club at Aliso Niguel. The club is run by co-presidents Adelina Toufanpur and Harlow Kelley, who both aim to inspire ANHS to live a more environmentally friendly life through their diets.
The Earth Based Club meets at the end of every month. At their meetings, members spend time discussing future plans, presenting presentations, sharing vegan snacks, and sharing information about the overall cause.
Club co-president, Toufanpur, said, “We definitely have more planned this year, by hopefully introducing our new ideas like a Meatless Monday for CAPOUSD schools or plant-based and vegan breakfasts … and we would like to incorporate connecting with outside sources to give students community service hours, which will all be determined this year!”
The club has been responsible for previous achievements before, such as successfully advocating for three new vegan options on multiple CAPOUSD school lunches back in March. They were able to do it as a club by reaching out to the CAPOUSD District Food services.
Both Toufanpur and Harlow have been practicing vegan and vegetarian diets before starting the club last year. They believe that as humans we are able to make important decisions about our diets, meaning it is important to make choices that can positively impact the natural world.
