Color guard and band perform at Aliso Niguel High School for football games during halftime to get the crowd excited. Color guard and band work very hard with long practices and demanding duties. With a mixture of giant flags being twirled around, dancers leaping and people marching while playing an instrument all while keeping tempo is what makes this halftime show amazing.
Lilly Stroji (10) says, “Performing at the football game can make us nervous, but seeing those bright lights makes the experience so much more fun. While color guard can be hard, performing something we have put many hours into gives us a sense of pride in what we do!”
Dealing with the tension and stress of performing in front of a packed stadium that includes many kids and parents can be very nerve-racking. All of the color guard support each other and are very proud of themselves for the results they achieved and overcoming the fear they face.
The music, color scheme and great music is all a combination of marching band and color guard and is all carefully choreographed and thought out. Without each other, they would not have such a successful and strong production. With having a strong production, new relationships and memories form, making a strong team.
Many people have found that Color Guard and Band have changed them in the best way and are extremely grateful to join such a loving community. With much dedication, it can be challenging to balance practicing and a great amount of school work.
Jodie Casad (10) says, “Band is a lot of fun. Performing in front of a large audience is not a concern for me because when we play, I am not paying attention to the people watching; but, I am focused on where I have to march next and what I am playing. Although band does take time after school, it is fairly easy to balance my work.”
Jodie knows that staying in line and on beat is more important than what the audience thinks. She manages her time wisely and is not bothered by the workload she deals with from school and band. She loves to support the school and is proud of her position in playing in the marching band.
Marching band and color guard is a very unique and different type of sport. It has a different type of endurance requirement and movements that no other sport has. Everyone who joins falls in love and is willing to spend time to get better as well as create new friendships along the way.
Raji Subedi (10), a member of color guard says, “It is an experience that you really can’t get on any other team.”
These people have a blast when getting to experience performing in front of a live audience and get to do it with the people they love and value most. The great community of Aliso Niguel’s Color Guard and Marching Band progressively grows and continues to put on a spectacular show, which is an essential part of home games at ANHS.
