Baseball Starts Off Strong
The baseball team at Aliso Niguel High School have begun their season, and have most recently lost their away game against Trabuco Hills on Friday, March 25, with the score being 9-1.
So far the team has faced many defeats, having a 4-12 wins to losses ratio, and is currently on a 5 game losing streak. This streak started with San Clemente High School, and has progressed from Ocean View to Trabuco Hills, with losses all around.
The team’s four wins came from their very first and second game of the season against Mission Viejo High School, then a couple games later against Sonora in La Habra, and finally the most recent win against Lakewood on Saturday, March 12 with a score of 8-7.
Other than those four wins though, the rest of the baseball team’s games have ended up in losses for the team. With these losses, they are in fourth and last place in their Sea View league, having been defeated for all four league games so far.
Individually, the top performers of the team include Shouto Tsuki with the highest batting average of 0.333, and the highest on base percentage and stolen bases being player Chase Christner, with an average of 0.484 on base, and two stolen bases throughout the season so far. As far as for home runs, the player with the most so far has been Shaun McCaghren with two so far.
The varsity team this year is currently being led by varsity coach and previous Padres player, Craig Hanson. As for captains, this year’s varsity baseball captains are senior and BYU commit Trevor Doney, and junior Hayden Orrill.
Despite the team’s current losing streak, the alumni of the Aliso Niguel baseball team seem to be pretty successful. From frequent tweets from the baseball team’s active twitter account, @ANHS_baseball, updates are made of alumni’s accomplishments. These updates include former Aliso Niguel students making their debuts in college leagues or even the MLB.
Even though the season isn’t going the best for the Aliso baseball team so far, there are sure to be more wins and success in the future, and wish them the best of luck!
