Boys and Girls Swim
Swim season has started for a couple of weeks now, and both teams are excited about their meets and practices. Meets usually last well over three hours while practices are around two hours.
The boys and girls have a meet on March 10 at 3 p.m. against Huntington Beach at Aliso. This is the first official meet for all the teams even though some of them already played against Capo Valley earlier this month. The Black and Teal Meet was practice for newer swimmers to be prepared for future meets.
On March 15, they have another meet at 3 p.m. against Tesoro at their school. This is a league competition.
Finally, March 29 is the last meet at Aliso against San Clemente at 3 p.m. All the other meets after are at different locations.
There is also a Swim-A-Fun Fundraiser on March 12 to raise money for expenses, like team equipment. Each swimmer has a sponsor that would pay according to the number of laps they swim. They will begin at around 8:30 a.m. and athletes have to swim as many laps as they can in 90 minutes.
This year, the swim department needs funds to upgrade the weight room, starting blocks, shade covers and replacing old equipment. Mr. Cox, the girls swim coach, says, “I hate fundraising. I’ve hated it since my first day coaching high school; however, this year, we need to push hard to raise money. I hope you can join me to make these massive upgrades possible.” There is a donation link on the school store website if anyone is interested in contributing.
The boys and girls are nervous but also excited for this month’s upcoming meets. The important thing to focus on is improving times, not necessarily getting first place. Hopefully, both teams will do well against rival schools. Go Aliso!
