New Winter Movies
This winter, theaters and streaming services alike have continued to offer new and creative films. The lineup of movies for February and March include a variety of options, from action, mystery, or animated. There is an opportunity for everyone to find a new movie to enjoy.
February’s movies included “Moonfall,” “Uncharted,” and “Death on the Nile.” These movies all include action, high-pressure situations. These films are all exclusively theatrical releases.
Emily Chapman (10) says, “I’m excited that movies are back in theaters. I enjoy streaming, but I missed the feeling of a movie theatre and the concessions.”
For science fiction fans, “Moonfall” is a hilariously ridiculous film that brings comedy into an often serious genre. “Uncharted” stars “Spider-Man” actor Tom Holland in a movie based on the popular video game of the same name. Lastly, “Death on the Nile” features a star-studded cast in a murder mystery, based on the Agatha Christie novel of the same name. It’s also within the same universe as “Murder of the Orient Express.”
Nick Breen (10) says, “I thought ‘Moonfall’ was overall entertaining. The plot is a bit out there, but it was a fun movie that didn’t take itself too seriously.”
Currently, “Death on the Nile” has the highest critical acclaim with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 65 percent and an audience rating of 3.8 stars. “Uncharted” follows with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 54 percent, but an audience rating of 4.1 stars. Lastly, “Moonfall” with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 38 percent, and an audience score of 3.2 stars.
Other February movies included, “Marry Me” starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Lopez, and “Dog” starring Channing Tatum. “Marry Me” is a romantic comedy about a pop star who finds herself in an unlikely marriage. “Dog” tells the story of two former army ranges on a cross-country road trip. “Marry Me” has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 59 percent, and an audience score of 3.8 stars. “Dog” has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 77 percent, and an audience score of 4.4 stars.
New movies releasing this month include “The Batman” in theaters, and “Turning Red” and “Cheaper by the Dozen” on the streaming service Disney+. “The Batman” will be released on March 4, while “Turning Red” will be available for streaming on March 11. “Cheaper by the Dozen” will be available to stream on March 18.
Corrie Denton (11) says, “I’m really excited for ‘Turning Red.’ I love most Pixar movies, and it looks adorable.”
Spring has new and exciting movies that many are excited to see. The return of movie theaters has created a new combination of theatrical and streaming releases that many also seem to enjoy.
