Super Bowl Halftime Show
The Superbowl was on Feb. 13, 2022. The game involved the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals. The halftime show lineup officially included Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar.
The halftime show started with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. Then Snoop Dogg performed “California Love.”
Rapper 50 Cent made a guest appearance and sang “In Da Club.” Later Anderson Paak also made a guest appearance.
Then Mary J. Blige performed “Family Affair.” Mary J. Blige was wearing a crystal-embellished bodysuit. The suit had about 10,000 Swarovski crystals. Her look was completed with thigh-high boots and matching gloves. She also wore a matching fedora.
Kendrick Lamar then performed songs “Alright” and “m.A.A.d city.” Kendrick Lamar wore a custom outfit from Virgil Abloh’s Final Louis Vuitton collection. He was wearing an all-black tuxedo, black sunglasses, and black boots. The performers around Kendrick Lamar were wearing all-black tuxedos as well. However, they were sporting bleach blond hair and beards, and black sashes that read “Dre Day,” referring to Dr. Dre.
Eminem performed “Lose Yourself” and “Still D.R.E.” At the end of his set, Eminem knelt. He kneeled as a reference to former NFL football player Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick knelt during the U.S. National anthem in 2016.
Rumor is that the NFL had told Eminem to not kneel, and flagged Snoop Dogg’s attire for being “gang-related.” Furthermore, the league was said to have been uncomfortable with a lyric in the song “Still D.R.E.” The line is “still not loving police.” They did not want this line in the performance because they did not want to cause a “culture war”.
Although not addressed by the league, Snoop Dogg was seen smoking cannabis on the set before performing.
The entire performance was a total of 12 minutes.
