Girl’s Golf Wins League Champs

Aliso Niguel Highschool girl’s golf team had a very successful season this 2021-22 school year. On a rainy Oct. 19th, Varsity Girls Golf finished off their season as League Champs at San Clemente Municipal Golf Course. They ended with an undefeated season, eight wins and zero losses overall.

Reese Wilkins (10) explains, “It was a super fun season. Our hard work throughout the season finally paid off and we made it to CIF.”

The team entered CIF, which stands for California Scholastic Federation, on Tuesday Nov. 2nd. Unfortunately, they didn’t make it into the second round of CIF after losing to Los Serranos Highschool. Reese Wilkins (10) says, “We made it to the first round of CIF which was very exciting. There were 120 girls and 20 teams and sadly we didn’t make it to the second round but it was a great experience.”

The girls were happy to finally be able to play and practice with one another after COVID altering their past season. Ariana Sahai (11) explains, “With COVID last year it was difficult for our team, especially trying to get out and play somewhere with so many restrictions. I’m so happy this year was different.”

Ariana Shahi (11) played her third year on the team and although the girls didn’t advance in CIF, she explains that the girls were proud to be League Champs, and really enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships they built along the way.  She says, “My team is so caring and we never let eachother get too frustrated with the way we played. I am grateful for the program and team.”

They will miss their graduating seniors, but are happy they got to have such a successful golf season and look forward to next year.
