Girls Golf Swings Through Their Season
Girls golf has maintained their strong head start this season. Recently they went against their biggest rival, Dana Hills, on Wednesday and Thursday and won both of the games.
According to Malia Matsuura (12), one of the senior golf captains, “[they] were expecting a challenging match against Dana… since they have a lot of good players this year.”
Against their rivals, at Dana, they “won by three strokes and eight strokes,” according to Coach Paul Biggs, the head coach. Before Dana, they were able to score an easy victory against San Juan Hills and had a “very close match against Tesoro.”
For a quick recap, they started the year strong on Aug. 23. Varsity girls golf won their first two wins against Mission Viejo High School and JSerra at Mission Viejo Country Club. On Aug. 26 they played at the Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club, with Victoria Wang (9) winning a medal with a 4-under 32 at Coto Couth. Victoria also medaled with a 39, when Aliso Niguel won their match against Corona Del Mar High School on the El Niguel Country Club golf course. They have faced off against every team this season and won, making them currently undefeated.
Victoria Wang is the player to look out for this season. According to the golf coach, Victoria was able to shoot a round of 4-under against Tesoro, although she usually shoots between 1-2 par per round.
When asked how he believes the last two weeks of the Girls golf season would end, Coach Biggs commented on how they are “trying to have an undefeated season”, and are expecting to “compete in CIF at division 1.” He likes the team’s fast pace of play and thinks they play well.
